Individual Community Living Support for staying in your own place

Living in your own home and being part of your community are the same project. ICLS provides the flexible, hands-on support that makes both hold together.

Housing and community, not one or the other

It is possible to keep someone housed and still leave them stranded: technically living independently, functionally cut off from everything outside the front door. Individual Community Living Support treats the housing and the community participation as one goal, because a life confined to one apartment is not independence.

Support is built around the practical things that determine whether both hold: managing a lease and a budget, keeping the household running, getting to appointments, and being able to reach the places and people that matter.

Flexible by design

ICLS is deliberately flexible because the barriers vary so much. For one person the obstacle is transportation. For another it is organizing bills and paperwork before something gets shut off. For a third it is the confidence to go somewhere new alone.

Our approach is to identify the specific things that would cause this housing situation to fail, then support those directly. Support that ignores the actual failure point is wasted hours.

Questions

About individual community living support

How is ICLS different from Individualized Home Supports?
The two overlap and the right one depends on your authorization and goals. ICLS puts particular weight on sustaining an independent living situation and community participation together. If you are not sure which fits, your case manager can clarify, or call us and we will talk it through.
Can ICLS help someone move into their own apartment?
We can support the practical side of establishing and sustaining a household: routines, budgeting, paperwork, and the day-to-day systems that keep a lease intact. Talk with us and your case manager about what your authorization covers.
Does ICLS include help with money management?
Support with budgeting, bill timing, and organizing financial paperwork can be part of the plan. That is assistance and skill-building, not taking over someone's finances.
What if the living situation starts falling apart?
Tell us early. Most housing losses are preceded by weeks of warning signs that were fixable. We would much rather help with a late notice than a lease termination.
